We are excited to share our latest winning Stair Design Photo of the Month, a stunning exterior staircase created submitted by our Coastal Carolina team. This stair was created for a home on Kiawah Island, a barrier island located just south of Charleston, South Carolina. Thank you to all who voted for this unique project!
This staircase required a great deal of engineering and material research. Due to its close proximity to the ocean, selecting the perfect design materials was critical in ensuring durability. The stringers are 24’ treated paralams, and treads are IPE with galvanized hardware.
Ken Duerr led the design and engineering effort, and the Charlotte, NC curved stair team constructed the stair. Kenny Eller led the outstanding installation team which included professionals from Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC.
The photo below shows the staircase construction process and also offers a glimpse of the beautiful lowcountry marsh just beyond the home.
Our team of craftsmen specialize in wood and steel stair carriages for exterior stairs, that incorporate all types of balustrades available in limitless finishes. Balustrade materials include hand forged iron, glass, stainless steel, cable rail, wood, and metal.
